MATERIAL SELECTION MATRIX / LOADED

MATERIALS / APPLICATION FIT

Choose thermoformed packaging materials by application

Compare material behavior, product fit and validation requirements before tooling and sampling begin.

01 / COMPARISON GUIDE

Material is a project decision, not a label

Use these directions for early screening. Final selection still depends on the product, contact conditions, transport, rules, process and representative-sample validation.

01 / PP / Polypropylene

PP food tray

Custom thermoformed PP food inserts engineered around portioning, separation, stacking and in-process handling.

Selection priorities

  • Good toughness for trays requiring practical impact resistance
  • Resists grease and many common chemicals, supporting easier handling and cleaning
  • Dividers, retention points, ribs and stacking geometry can improve packing efficiency

Application directions

  • Bakery, produce, meat and prepared-food portioning
  • In-process food handling and organized placement
  • Display, separation and stackable transport packaging

Validate before production

Food-contact suitability depends on the specified resin grade, migration testing, service temperature and destination-market rules. Validate load, dimensions, stacking and sealing with production-representative samples.

Project inputs

Product dimensions and weight, direct-food-contact status, service temperature, sealing method, case quantity and stacking height.

02 / PETG / Copolyester

PETG medical tray

Transparent PETG trays for medical and device applications, balancing visual inspection, formed detail, toughness and precise positioning.

Selection priorities

  • High clarity supports assembly confirmation, foreign-matter observation and visual inspection
  • Good toughness and impact performance can reduce brittle damage during handling
  • Detailed cavities and retention geometry control product contact points and orientation

Application directions

  • Medical-device components and diagnostic consumables
  • Pharmaceutical accessories, reagent assemblies and precision-item handling
  • Trays requiring visibility, protective positioning and assembly inspection

Validate before production

PETG alone does not establish medical compliance. Confirm biocompatibility, cleanliness, sterilization compatibility, package integrity and destination-market requirements for the finished application.

Project inputs

Device geometry and sensitive areas, cleanliness level, sterilization method, assembly flow, regulatory and validation requirements.

03 / PS / Antistatic grade

Antistatic PS electronics tray

Antistatic PS thermoformed trays for electronic and precision components, with a target surface resistance of 10⁹–10¹¹ Ω to reduce static accumulation during handling.

Selection priorities

  • Target surface resistance of 10⁹–10¹¹ Ω for packaging and handling ESD-sensitive components
  • Good rigidity helps preserve cavity dimensions, part orientation and array pitch
  • Pick points, clearance zones, retaining ribs and stacking features can support manual or automated loading

Application directions

  • PCBs, connectors, sensors and compact electronic modules
  • Precision hardware, optoelectronic parts and assembly-line handling
  • Production flows requiring positioning, counting, stacking and static-risk control

Validate before production

The 10⁹–10¹¹ Ω target is an antistatic surface-resistance range, not conductive packaging. Agree the test method, humidity, sampling points and effective life, then verify representative material and finished trays.

Project inputs

Component geometry and sensitive leads, resistance target, test standard, cleanliness, reuse cycles, stacking and automated pick method.

04 / Flock / Formed substrate

Premium flocked tray

A fine flock layer creates a silky touch, soft sheen and pronounced three-dimensional presentation for premium unboxing.

Selection priorities

  • A fine flock surface provides a silky, soft hand feel
  • The low-glare finish deepens contours and emphasizes sculpted cavity geometry
  • Color, pile feel, cavities and retention features can be tailored to the product and brand

Application directions

  • Perfume, skincare, color-cosmetic and gift-set inserts
  • Premium liquor bottles, barware combinations and presentation boxes
  • Health-product bottles, nutrition gift sets and premium assortments

Validate before production

Approve color, fiber shedding, abrasion, odor, adhesive system and product-surface compatibility on physical samples. Direct-contact applications require separate material and regulatory review.

Project inputs

Product dimensions and weight, brand color, desired pile feel, visible areas, contact requirements, drop conditions and gift-box assembly.

05 / Fabric laminate / PVC

Fabric-laminated PVC liquor tray

A thermoformed PVC structure faced with textile, designed primarily to locate, support and present liquor bottles and barware in premium boxes.

Selection priorities

  • The formed PVC skeleton supports the bottle body, shoulder and neck
  • A woven facing replaces the exposed-plastic look with a refined presentation texture
  • Bottle lifts, glass cavities and accessory zones can create a layered unboxing experience

Application directions

  • Baijiu, whisky, wine and premium-spirit gift boxes
  • Bottle-and-glass or bottle-and-accessory presentation sets
  • Seasonal and corporate liquor packaging requiring support and textile finish

Validate before production

Validate load support, drop, vibration and box assembly using the actual bottle. Confirm laminate bond, edge treatment, odor and compatibility with bottle coatings and labels.

Project inputs

Bottle 3D dimensions and weight, fragile areas, accessory set, fabric color and texture, box space, shipping and drop requirements.
